Jay Harris is giving insight into his health battle.ย
The ESPN anchor recently shared that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer in a vulnerable essay to raise awareness about the disease.ย
โMy treatment plan begins with surgery, which is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10,โ he wrote in the note published to ESPNโs website June 5. โAfter my diagnosis, a PET scan showed no spreading. While that was quite the relief, I know thatโs not the final word, and theyโll find out more when they go inside.โ
He emphasized, โMy hope is that they wonโt find anything extra so that I can return to work in a month or so, 100 percent healthy.โ
And while Jayโs diagnosis was jarring for him to receive, he noted it was not totally unexpected.ย
โProstate cancer disproportionately affects Black men,โ he explained. โMy dad had a bout with prostate cancer, which he won. Iโm 60. Itโs something Iโve always been cognizant of, and my doctor and I talk about it every annual visit.โ
