Instagram has chosen India and South Korea to test a new interface that displays the appโs Reels page first.
The company first showed off a similar design when it launched its first iPad app earlier this month. The new interface has Stories up top, like it did previously, but the DM button now lives on the navigation bar in the center, and the Reels tab will move to the second spot. You can swipe to navigate between these tabs.
The Following tab is now placed next to Reels, and gives you three feed options: โAllโ for recommended posts and reels from accounts you follow; โFriendsโ for posts and reels from mutuals; and โLatestโ for the newest posts and reels.
Instagram said that while this redesign is being tested with a limited number of people, the company aims to roll it out globally.
Adding to its announcement last week that Instagram crossed 3 billion monthly users, Meta said on Monday that much of its growth is thanks to short videos, which are reshared across its various platforms 4.5 billion times. That is why it is more prominently featuring Reels and DMs in the appโs interface.
