France TV Distribution has boarded โLauraโs Treatments,โ a critically-acclaimed social thriller that recently took top honors at the La Rochelle Fiction Festival. The international distributor will launch sales at next weekโs Mipcom in Cannes.
Produced by Tetra Media Fiction and Torcello, the four-part series stars Valรฉrie Bonneton (โLittle White Liesโ) as Laura, a small-town pharmacist who runs a support group for victims of domestic abuse. When one of her group members is murdered before her eyes and anotherโs plea for help goes unanswered, Laura is driven to act. Consumed by grief and anger at a system that turns a blind eye, she takes justice into her own hands. But how far is she willing to go to defend the women sheโs sworn to protect?
Speaking to Le Parisien, co-creators Marie Kremer and Frรฉdรฉric Krivine (โA French Villageโ) explained that while the series is not based on a true story, it draws deeply from real social issues. Kremer said they wanted to explore โthe lack of justice for womenโ through fiction, telling the story from the perspective of someone who is not a direct victim to help viewers identify more closely with her.
Director Akim Isker said Bonnetonโs character reflects โus, the audience,โ an ordinary person compelled to act when institutions fail. โWeโre not offering answers,โ he added. โOur aim is to raise questions and spark debate.โ
For Bonneton, the shoot was one of the most emotionally challenging of her career. โIt was painful and very difficult. I was shaken,โ she said, recalling her meetings with real survivors of domestic violence and the sobering statistics showing that 113 French women were killed by a partner or ex-partner in 2025, compared with 118 in 2024.
โWe all know women who have gone through this,โ Bonneton continued. โAnd I have too. Every year, 200,000 women file complaints, but many more stay silent out of fear. I understand Laura โ she canโt bear it anymore. She knows more women will die, and she acts. Itโs stronger than her, beyond reason, almost a sacrifice. I hope this series helps bring change. I want to carry these womenโs voices.โ
