UK police arrest man linked to ransomware attack that caused airport disruptions in Europe

The U.K.โ€™s National Crime Agency (NCA) said on Wednesday that a man was arrested in connection to the ransomware attack that has caused delays and disruptions at several European airports since the weekend. ย

The hack targeted check-in systems provided by Collins Aerospace on Friday, causing delays at Brussels, Berlin, Dublin, and Londonโ€™s Heathrow airport, which lasted until yesterday. ย

While the NCA did not name the man, it said he is โ€œin his fortiesโ€ and that he was arrested in the southern county of West Sussex on Tuesday.ย The man has been released on conditional bail, the agency said.

โ€œAlthough this arrest is a positive step, the investigation into this incident is in its early stages and remains ongoing,โ€ said Paul Foster, deputy director and head of the NCAโ€™s National Cyber Crime Unit.ย

NCA spokesperson Richard Crowe told TechCrunch that the agency had nothing else to add to the press release.
