Ali Fazal (โMirzapurโ) is set to headline Prime Videoโs upcoming Indian investigative crime thriller โRaakh,โ alongside Sonali Bendre (โThe Broken Newsโ) and Aamir Bashir (โTiger 3โ).
The series, produced by EndemolShine India and Gulbadan Talkies, will be executive produced and directed by Prosit Roy (โPaatal Lokโ), with Anusha Nandakumar (โSingham Againโ) and Sandeep Saket (โIndian Police Forceโ) serving as creators, writers and co-directors. Ayush Trivedi (โIndian Police Forceโ) is handling dialogue duties for the project, which is slated to premiere in 2026.
โAt Prime Video, we want to continue pushing the boundaries of traditional storytelling and bring nuanced narratives to our customers,โ said Nikhil Madhok, director and head of originals at Prime Video India. โAt the surface โRaakhโ is a thriller replete with unexpected turns and high stakes drama. However, at the core this is a highly emotional story that will stay with audiences long after they have finished watching it.โ
Madhok added that the series represents โone of the most powerful stories we have told on Prime Videoโ and praised the casting of Fazal, Bendre and Bashir for bringing โthis high-stakes world created by Anusha Nandakumar and Sandeep Saket to life.โ
The series marks a significant project for Fazal, who has built an international profile through roles in films like โVictoria & Abdulโ and โDeath on the Nile,โ as well as smash hit Prime Video series โMirzapur.โ
Rishi Negi, group chief operating officer at Banijay Asia and EndemolShine India, positioned the series as more than a conventional crime thriller, describing it as โa layered, character-driven story that challenges the boundaries of morality, justice, and consequence.โ
โThe series reflects the evolving appetite of Indian and global audiences for narratives that are both emotionally complex and genre-forward,โ Negi said. โWeโre thrilled to collaborate with Prime Video to bring this ambitious, emotionally charged narrative to audiences across the globe.โ
Director Prosit Roy emphasized the seriesโ thematic ambitions, calling โRaakhโ a โdeeply immersive world that pushes boundaries while exploring the complex layers of human nature.โ
โAnusha and Sandeep have crafted a narrative that delves into the grey areas of morality, justice, and redemption, all while keeping viewers thoroughly engaged,โ Roy said. โFor me, the series represents a bold step forward in Indian storytelling, blending intense drama with nuanced character studies.โ
The project continues Prime Videoโs expansion of its Indian originals slate, which includes series like โPaatal Lok,โ โPanchayat,โ โMirzapur,โ โThe Family Man,โ and โMade in Heaven,โ as well as โCitadel: Honey Bunnyโ and โDahaad.โ
