However, that didnโt keep social media users from having a range of opinions about the โSubwayโ singerโs jaw-dropping topless look on the red carpet of musicโs biggest night.
After all, Chappell turned heads when she removed the cape of her sheer red Mugler dress to reveal that the bodice fabric was connected to two nipple rings affixed to her breasts, otherwise leaving her chest and back fully exposed.
Amid the praise and criticism of the viral look, the 27-year-old weighed in with her reaction to the uproar.
โGiggling because I donโt even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit,โ she wrote on Instagram Feb. 2. โThe lookโs actually so awesome and weird. I recommend just exercising your free will itโs really fun and silly.โ
Chappell, who was up for Record of the Year and Pop Solo Performance at the event, concluded, โThank you for having me @grammys and those who voted for me!!โ
But the โCasualโ singerโs dress wasnโt the only reason she was top of mind on the red carpet. In fact, fellow nominee Sabrina Carpenter quipped that the eventโs photographers were more tame than they had been in the past.ย
